THE PACKER PUNDIT OPINION

Here it is just 4 days till Christmas (NFL Draft April 29th) and I'm still wrestling with... "The Favre Situation"

On the one hand... my better angels are telling me... "Be patient... look at all the wonderous things Brett has done for you and the Packers... think back on the 'good ole days' of last minute touchdown bombs to Sterling Sharpe in the Silverdome... 80+ yard rockets to 'Free' in the Super Bowl... and 'the Monday Nighter after Irv passed when Brett went spaz (sorry Tiger) on the Raiders secondary in memory of his father.
However... on the other hand... the devil in me is sick of Brett's indecisiveness... his calling press conferences only to bemoan everybody actually showing up... at 8:30 am on a Saturday... his dictating HIS terms to the Packers coaching staff... General Manager... and the ball boy as to what the Packers need to do to prove themselves worthy of his Talents (nearly 30 picks last year???)

Hey... I've argued all sides of the argument... Retire (here)... Cut or Trade (here)... Please Play (here)... So I know of where I vacillate!!! Soooooo... let me give it another shot.

Suppose I'm Brett Favre (yeah... in Brett's dreams) I'm on a team that's one three straight division titles... last season we went 10-6... I've got a coaching staff I can roll... the ground game is humming... Javon Walker just turned in a "break out season" and my O-line is considered one of the best in Football... life is good!

Then... we get a new GM... the coaching staff is uptight because "Sherman can't win the big one"... I lose two of my best Linemen... right up the effin' middle yet... and they replace them with a 'cheep' free agent and a rookie 7th round pick... Javon Walker gets hurt in the first game... Ahman gets hurt... Najah gets hurt... Fergie... Fisher... Franks all get hurt... which leads me to ask...

Hey Dude, Where's my Team?

So can we really blame Brett for taking a wait and see posture with the Packers. Let's face it... it's easy to sit behind a computer and pontificate when Peppers, Sapp and the Bears front four aren't sitting on my chest. I watched some 'low-lites' of the Packers 2005 season and Favre took some halacious hits. His Canton ticket is a Can't miss! He either holds... or is in second in every passing category since David completed his first toss to Goliath.

Maybe... maybe... maybe we could just give him some time...

Or not.
