Analyzing "The Play"
It's been what... a month since the loss to the Giants?
Okay... 34 days... 14 hours... and 21 minutes... but who's counting?
In any case... I now feel comfortable in analyzing "The Play" that lost the game that chilly January evening... 34 days... 14 hours... and 22 minutes ago.
First off we need a name for "The Play". You know... like the "Emaculate Reception"... "The Thrilla in Manila" or even... "The Music City Miracle".
How'z 'bout... ummm...
Farve's Frozen Flub Up?
(originally I wasn't going to go with 'Flub'... yeah... I went there!)
Pack/Eagles' 2004 Playoff game Part Two?
(yeah... I went there again!)
Whatever... in any case... let's revue the play.
Option 1: Our truck driver Phil (a Steeler fan) pointed out to me how wide open Ryan Grant was. I missed this during the game but his keen 'Truck Driving' eyes caught it. Phil went on to point out the Grant could have run for an easy 20 yards... I'd say at least 8 or 10... and hopefully break free for 10 more yards... he was due!
Option 2: Clearly Brett was looking to Driver on this play 'the whole way'. He probably was more open then the picture shows (note... the pass is already in the air... we don't see what Favre saw 2 seconds before the pass... just the Giant DB breaking on the ball for an easy pick). In any case... as has already been pointed out... had Brett led Driver more... or passed the ball where only Driver could have caught it... we get the first down.
Option 3: Jones or Lee ( can't tell who it is but my guess is Jones) is apparently wide open in the middle of the field. Brett has a clear shot at him but once again... we don't know what he was looking at 2 seconds prior.
Option 4: Look how freakin' open Jennings is on this play! 2 seconds after the pass be damned... he's wide freakin' open. And... the Giant Safety is turned the wrong way as he is headed to the middle of the field. Of course... 2 seconds AFTER the pass so possibly he hadn't turned till he saw Favre release the ball. In any case... Gregg Jenning could have turned this into an easy 20 to 30 yard gain!
Well that's all I got.
It's not as easy to critizise "The Play" as it would seem.
It's not like... 4th and 26!
Yeah I went there... and this time I bought land!)
