It's time for running game to make gains
Snow fell upon the greater Green Bay metroplex virtually every day last week, and temperatures never got above the freezing mark. For 8 bucks an hour, you could have helped shovel out Lambeau Field. Born and raised in more temperate Tennessee, Scott Wells was not digging the winter wonderland. In fact, the Green Bay Packers' center found himself experiencing his annual flashback to his rookie year of 2004, when he joined a veteran offensive line where cold-weather necessities like long sleeves were strongly discouraged by center Mike Flanagan and guards Mike Wahle and Marco Rivera. "I think a lot of it is tradition, the tough-man mentality they want to portray," Wells said. "I know when I came up here and saw it, I was like, 'These guys are crazy.' I remember going to practice outside, and it's freezing, and Mike Wahle has on shorts and just his jersey. I tried it one day, and I'm like, 'Forget that,' and put on sweats." [More]
