Will he, won't he speculation ends with Tuesday decision

The Green Bay Packers finally have their answer: Brett Favre is coming back. After four months of deliberation, the quarterback has told the team he plans to play this season, according to ESPN. The network reported late Tuesday night that Favre informed General Manager Ted Thompson and coach Mike McCarthy of his decision earlier that day.

McCarthy, through a team spokesman, referred all questions to Thompson, who could not be reached. Efforts to reach Favre, his agent and his family also were unsuccessful. It’s unknown if the team has a formal announcement planned for today. (More Here)

HARLAN ALWAYS THOUGHT FAVRE WOULD BE BACK
Packers President Bob Harlan told the Press-Gazette shortly after the statement was released that he felt all along Favre would return.

“I always kept in mind that he never did say he wasn’t going to return,” Harlan said. “People kept asking me all along, and I don’t know my reason, but I told them I think he’s coming back. The longer it took, I thought it meant he was coming back.

“He’s such a great competitor and leader. It will be a huge loss for the entire NFL when he leaves, and we’re just delighted he’s coming back.” (More Here)

DECISION FINALLY PUTS END TO STRANGE OFFSEASON

While Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre’s decision to return isn’t exactly a surprise, it does put an end to an offseason where Favre has sounded anything but optimistic about his future or that of the Packers. In a January interview with ESPN, Favre sounded like a player who had taken his last snap for the Packers.

“If I had to pick right now, just make a damn decision and live with it, I would say I’m not coming back.” Favre said.

In the same interview, Favre questioned his own motivation about whether he even had the desire to continue to play.

“There’s days I wake up and say, ‘You know what? I can’t retire. Don’t be stupid. What will I do?’” Favre said. “There’s other days, I go, ‘What if it’s crunch time, 2 minutes left, do you want the ball?’ I don’t know if I do. If I was to come back and play, I would hope that I would be totally committed to the team because I’ve always been that type of player.” (More Here)
