Legendary Hall Of Fame Quarterback and former Packer Coach, Bryan Bartett Starr, has made it known to Ted Thompson and the Green Bay Packers, that he is unretiring from the NFL and is planning to compete for the current 2008 team. Said the former player, "Hey... if Brett Favre can unretire... why the heck can't I? Lately I've had 'the itch'... and this shooting pain just below my left elbow when I do this." (motions)
The former Packer great made a surprise appearance on WGRA's channel 23 "What's New Tuscaloosa" a morning talk show in rural Alabama.
When asked how a 74 year old man can hope to make the team, Starr responded, "I've been tossing the ole' pigskin to a couple middle schoolers at a local Alabama grade school. My arm feels great! Well... except for that shooting pain and that itch thing."
Starr was asked about his change of heart. "I'm only guilty of retiring a couple decades too soon. If coach Lombardi would have re-signed Paul Hournung and Jim Taylor, talked to Weeb Ewbank about the opening at ball boy and kissed my patootey... I'd have never retired!"
In a strange twist to the story, Packer GM Ted Thompson has filled a grievance with the NFL charging the St. Louis Cardinals and the Los Angeles Rams of tampering.
