An open letter to Brett...
Dear Brett,
May I call you Brett or do you prefer 'his holyness' or perhaps 'his magnificance'? I hate to tell you this Bretty... but you're really hurting your legacy amongst die hard Packer fans.
Yeah... yeah... yeah... I know about those 100 or so sicifants 'Favre 4 Ever' protesters that showed up at Lambeau, but c'mon... what that tells me is that over 35,000 Packer fans stayed home!
I just don't think you and your Kiln, Mississippi Kabala have any idea of what 'Divaesque' crap you've put us fans through lately.
Shall we review?
3 years ago you hold new coach Mike McCarthy and PackerNation hostage with your 'Should I stay or should I go' rendition of on again -- off again retirement clues. I can still remember your press conference held one Saturday morning just before the draft, as you were hosting a golf tournament. We fans were teased with "Brett's holding a preseer to announce his plans". ESPN and the NFL Network went live to hear you say... "I don't know what ya all are doing here... I haven't made up my mind yet." Are you that clueless Brett? Did you not know about (or engineer through your brother's wife' 2nd cousin's haidresser) that the whole world was watching??? I find that hard to believe.
Then... at the end of that year you took those photographs with your linemen, and tearfully said good-bye after the Bear game in week 16. Speculation went rampent. Brett Favre has played his last game. But alas, that off-season you came out early saying you'd be back.
And back you were... one of your best seasons ever.
Heck... I bet most of Packer fans already forgave you for your ill advised 'Doh' moment versus the Giants. I know I did (after about 5 weeks).
So here we were. Brett Favre having a career year... taking the Pack to within Overtime of the Superbowl... Quarterbacking one of the most exciting... young offenses in the NFL and playing like a kid again throwing snowballs at Donald Driver and giving your receivers 'Fireman carries' after touchdowns... surely... surely and absolutely Brett Favre would be coming back???
No... be it tiredness... anger over not signing Randy Moss... or pouting because nobody begged you back. You said it plainly and clearly... "I know can still play... I just don't think I want to anymore."
Brett... we don't owe you anything except cheers if you comeback... and a warm spot in our hearts if you don't. We certainly don't owe you the future of this franchise... we didn't owe Vince Lombardi that either when he moved on.
Brett... get over yourself.
Either stay retired... or come into camp and prove you're still the best Quarterback on the team.
Sincerly,
A Packer Fan... not a player fan
