Good Story on Rodgers
Rodgers doesn't have to be Favre to rev Packers' engine

"I'm stepping into a team that's established already. Obviously, I'm expected to play well. But I'm not expected to maybe carry a team that doesn't have a lot of talent around the quarterback." -- Aaron Rodgers
GREEN BAY -- Imagine somebody handed you the keys to a shiny new Ferrari. OK, for the sake of properly matching metaphors to today's discussion, let's make it a Corvette. Your first thought might be to worry about wrapping $60,000 worth of sports car around the nearest tree. But that feeling would fade a few miles down the road, and you'd settle in and enjoy the ride.
Which brings us to Aaron Rodgers, the man who has just been buckled into the driver's seat of one of the league's best-performing offensive machines. As the Green Bay Packers begin offseason workouts this month, Rodgers is sure to grind some gears and stall the engine as he adjusts to life as the new starting quarterback.
But the road trip might turn out to be more fun than Packers fans imagine.
Brett Favre is gone, leaving fans to fret that their team will never be the same. That's true, of course, but it's not necessarily something to fear.
Clearly, Rodgers isn't going to become Favre 2.0.
Can't be. Shouldn't try.
With the Packers' offseason quarterback school in session, it's unlikely that coach Mike McCarthy spent time drilling Rodgers on his underhand shovel pass technique. There will be no film study session on the finer points of throwing into triple coverage.
Throwing Hail Marys off the back foot? Sorry, no longer part of the playbook.
But here's the best thing about Rodgers' new reality: With the talent he'll have around him next season, he won't have to be the next Favre for the Packers to pick up where they left off. [More]
