Packers Get Second Crack At Peterson
Minnesota rookie running back Adrian Peterson is being compared to, well, a lot of guys these days. He's been mentioned often in the same sentence as Eric Dickerson, not just because the two share an upright, powerful running style, but also because Peterson, with 1,036 yards through eight games, is on pace to break Dickerson's single-season rushing record for a rookie (1,808) and nearly on pace to break Dickerson's single-season record for any back (2,105). Dirty laundry piling up
Since 1990, 38 NFL teams have started their season 7-1 or 8-0. Only one failed to make the playoffs: The 1996 Washington Redskins, who went 2-6 the rest of the way and missed the postseason. The 2007 Green Bay Packers are determined not to join them, which would explain why coach Mike McCarthy — despite his team's impressive back-to-back road victories at Denver and Kansas City in a six-day span — and his staff aren't all puppy-dogs-and-ice-cream happy about their team's two big triumphs. Tops on the coaches' list of concerns entering Sunday's game against Minnesota at Lambeau Field: A penalty epidemic of stunning proportions. [More]
Offense Looking For
Best Guard Combo
The Packers are trying to shore up the interior of their offensive line, and Head Coach Mike McCarthy said this week he's rotating players at the guard spots to try to find the best combination. The coaching staff was not happy with the guard play in last week's win over Kansas City, particularly with the amount of pressure allowed up the middle in the passing game. Second-year pros Daryn Colledge, Tony Moll and Jason Spitz all played at guard in that game, while third-year man Junius Coston missed his third straight game with an ankle injury. [More]
Grant should get green light
Ryan Grant, who became the third different starter at the position against the Kansas City Chiefs Sunday, took part in most of Wednesday's practice after suffering a concussion against the Chiefs. Coach Mike McCarthy said Grant should be cleared to practice fully by associate team physician John Gray in the next day or so. "He's close," McCarthy said. "Dr. Gray feels good about him. We feel that he'll be fine for Sunday. It was a preliminary diagnosis." [More]
Rookie plays it safe about starting
For a guy who in the spotlight for the first time and four days away from making his first NFL start, Green Bay Packers rookie safety Aaron Rouse sure didn't seem very excited about the whole thing Wednesday. "Of course. I'm very excited," said Rouse, who'll start in place of Nick Collins and alongside Atari Bigby on Sunday when the Packers face the Minnesota Vikings at Lambeau Field. "But I think I'm more focused than excited. I think my excitement will show on Sunday, when I get a chance to knock some guys around and make big plays. You guys will see then." [More]
