McCarthy Returns To Kansas City
With Fond Memories
Mike McCarthy might have grown up in Pittsburgh during the Steelers' four Super Bowl titles in the 1970s, but it wasn't until he got his first NFL job with the Kansas City Chiefs that he truly became exposed to NFL fanaticism at full volume. To this day, McCarthy remembers his first game at Arrowhead Stadium as an offensive assistant coach. Seven years after concluding his playing career at nearby Baker University in Baldwin City, Kan., he was getting ready for the kickoff of Kansas City's 1993 preseason home opener against the Buffalo Bills, the three-time defending AFC champions and the same team the Chiefs would face in the AFC Championship five months later. "There's 70-some thousand people, and I'm up in the (coaches') box with the windows open," McCarthy recalled. "When they introduced Marcus Allen and he went running out of that tunnel with the crowd screaming, it was like, 'My God, I've never heard anything like that.' Then they introduced Joe Montana, and you thought the house was going to come down. And it was preseason! I played small-college football, and I'd never been around anything like that. That's something I'll always remember." [More]

Packers' away record stellar under coach
Green Bay - When the Green Bay Packers enter Arrowhead Stadium on Sunday for the first time since 1996, an experience that taxes just about each of the five senses awaits. There's the dizzying "Red Sea" of fans. The stadium itself has been known to vibrate a time or two. And then there's the noise. Combine the strange ellipsoid layout with steep seating that suffocates the sidelines, and you can be left with a noise level that has reached 116 decibels. That's somewhere between a jackhammer and a rock concert. [More]
Packers may have found missing run game
GREEN BAY (AP) -- While Brett Favre's two long touchdown passes in Monday night's overtime win at Denver got all the attention, the Green Bay Packers might have found something even more important: a running game and a bona fide starting halfback in Ryan Grant. The Packers beat the Broncos 19-13 Monday night when Favre hit Greg Jennings down the left side for an 82-yard TD on the first play of OT. After relying on the pass their first six games, the Packers (6-1) had their first balanced offensive attack of the season with 28 passes and 27 runs. Grant rushed 22 times for 104 yards, taking over for DeShawn Wynn early in the second quarter after Wynn sustained a shoulder stinger that landed him on season-ending injured reserve Tuesday. [More]
Grant will be main man at running back
Have the Green Bay Packers really righted the NFL's least productive running game? Is Ryan Grant really the back the Packers need to make their zone-blocking scheme work in its second year? Or was the balanced offensive attack in Monday night's 19-13 overtime victory at Denver merely a tease perpetrated in part by the Broncos' incapable run defense? There are no simple answers — not just three quarters into the Grant era, which took full effect Tuesday when the Packers placed leading rusher DeShawn Wynn on season-ending injured reserve with a shoulder injury. Grant looked like a feature back with his 22-carry, 104-yard rushing performance, and after an initial review of the game tape Tuesday, Packers coach Mike McCarthy remained enthused by the ground game's progress. Notes: Jackson returns to active duty
Green Bay - Rookie running back Brandon Jackson won't just be an emergency fill-in this week for the Green Bay Packers. Jackson, the team's second-round pick, has been inactive the past four weeks, the first two because of a shin injury and the latter two because he was surpassed on the depth chart. But with fellow rookie and recent starter DeShawn Wynn gone for the season with neck and shoulder injuries, Jackson will move up a notch. There are two backup positions behind Ryan Grant, who was named the starter this week after rushing for 104 yards against the Denver Broncos on Monday night. Veteran Vernand Morency will take one of them and Jackson the other. [More]
Alpha and Omega
Here are two Videos I found. The first is the opening tribute to Brett Farve narrated by Deanna that weas played during last Monday's game. This is a great vid that shows alot of stuff from Brett's early life. The second video encapsulates the last minute of the game (5 minutes in real time... 1 minute in game time). It includes the last couple plays of the Broncos tieng field goal drive... the OT coin toss (nice call Greg) and the freaking rediculous 82 yard weapon of mass over time destruction Brett tossed to (again) Greg Jennings. Enjoy!
