Morency Appears Ready, Jackson Questionable

It appears running back Vernand Morency will be healthy enough to play on Sunday for the first time in 2007, and the timing of his return couldn't be better. That's because fellow running back Brandon Jackson is questionable for Sunday's game in Minnesota with a shin injury that has kept him out of practice the past two days. Morency, who injured his knee during the first training camp practice back on July 28, made it through a full week of practice for the first time and has been deemed probable (virtual certainty he'll be available for regular duty) on the injury report. "Vernand had an excellent day today," Head Coach Mike McCarthy said. "He went through all the reps. He looks like he has his bounce back. It was just good to see him out there knocking the rust off. I thought he had a good day today, and he put together three full days of work." More >>
Morency good to go, but Jackson isn't
By Jason Wilde / madison.com
GREEN BAY -- The Green Bay Packers' problem of which halfback to deactivate for Sunday's game at Minnesota to make way for the return of Vernand Morency may just be solved -- but not the way coach Mike McCarthy would prefer it. While Morency participated in practice for the third straight day Friday, rookie Brandon Jackson, who started the first three regular-season games, sat out his second straight practice with a shin injury he suffered during Sunday's win over San Diego. Morency is listed as probable for Sunday and will make his debut, nine weeks after damaging the patellar tendon in his right knee during the team's July 28 training camp-opening practice. " 'Mo' looks like he has his bounce back," McCarthy said Friday. "It was just good to see him out there knocking the rust off. I thought he had a good day today and he put together three full days of work. (But) he's not prepared or is going to be asked to take all the snaps." More >>
Morency gets green light
Center Wells' status up in air

Green Bay - The Green Bay Packers welcomed back one ailing running back, prepared to play without another and crossed their fingers that center Scott Wells will be at full strength Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings at the Metrodome. Vernand Morency, the projected starter when training camp opened, did everything in practice Friday for the first time since his knee injury July 28 and almost certainly will play, perhaps extensively. The Packers have a huge need for Morency because rookie Brandon Jackson is out with a shin injury. Wells, probably the team's best offensive lineman over the first three games, suffered a strained hamstring Thursday and stood around watching Friday. He was listed as probable on the end-of-week injury report. "I'm concerned," coach Mike McCarthy said. "I'm just hopeful he'll have a good 48 hours and be ready to go." More >>

Green Bay - Each week, Mike McCarthy spends a considerable amount of time in news conferences discussing injuries. He talks about this player and that player, their hamstring pulls and sore knees and tight backs. But since becoming coach of the Green Bay Packers last year, McCarthy has never had to deal with the loss of a starter to a season-ending injury. "God's been good to us," cornerback Al Harris said Friday. "You've just got to stay healthy. You find that the healthy teams win more games." More >>
