Pack O-Line Panic Attack
Shuffling the Deck
By Packer Pundit / Patrick Stuckey
Yesteday's theme was O-Line Bad!
So I guess it comes as No Big Surprise that Coach M and M wants to shake things up a bit (again) and make some 'adjustments' along the Line.
Now listen... Change is good! I'm going through some changes on this very web site but... what made the packers O-Line (as well as all others) so spectacularly good the past few years was their team chemistry. All of us in Packer-Nation can still rattle off the names (from left to right) Clifton / Wahle / Flannigan / Rivera / Tausher. And of course...throw-in Kevin Berry for the U formation. Those guys had consistency on their side. They just 'Knew" where to go and what to do. Plus... well those two guards were both Pro-Bowlers... that didn't hurt either.
Basically... my point is this -- Change is Good but... Not so good for an Offensive line. Yes I know this is a new coaching staff... evaluating new players... but 'crimanidlies' guys... you're supposed to be professionals and you've had since May to start putting the pieces in place. Let's Get our Shit together already!
I do agree that some changes need to be made but...
- Last years Will Whitticker was the starting right guard... he's now a tackle.
- Julius Coston was a center... then a guard... then a tackle... now he's a guard again.
- Adrien Klemm was signed as a guard... got moved to tackle this spring.
- Kevin Berry also was moving inside to guard.
- Tony Moll was signed as a Tackle and now he's playing guard.
Good Lawd people... don't be surprised to see Donald Driver lining up at right tackle against the Falcons.
It could happen!

Jacked from the Packer report
Coach Mike McCarthy and his staff made a major move on the offensive line today by rearranging the rookie starters at the guard positions. Tony Moll was promoted, Daryn Colledge demoted and Jason Spitz moved in the process. MORE >>

In the ongoing effort to find the right combination of players up front, the Packers shuffled their rookies on the offensive line at practice on Monday. On the starting unit, third-round draft choice Jason Spitz moved from right guard to left guard, replacing second-round pick Daryn Colledge. Fifth-rounder Tony Moll was then moved from No. 2 right tackle to the No. 1 spot at right guard. "We're just looking for a comfort level of five guys playing together," Head Coach Mike McCarthy said. "We feel we've got great competition in there, competition is healthy, and we're going to see who takes advantage of the opportunity." MORE >>

The Packers thought Colledge, the sixth offensive lineman taken in the draft, would be another Mike Wahle because of his speed and athletic ability. But they were gambling he could make a seamless transition from tackle to guard and that obviously hasn't been the case. Philbin said Colledge needed to play a little faster, that he might have been thinking too much about his assignments and not playing up to the speed of the defense. Offensive coordinator Jeff Jagodzinski said when Moll played well in his second straight live performance, the decision was made to see if he could help immediately. Thus, Colledge was the odd man out. For now, the Packers want to find out if Moll, a 256-pound tight end until his senior season at Nevada, has what it takes to be a starter. Just a week ago, Philbin said Moll had made the most improvement of any lineman since arriving in Green Bay, but that he was a project who probably wouldn't see the field this season. Philbin said then that the coaches probably would take a look at him at guard somewhere down the line, but considered him a long-term answer at tackle. MORE >>
Quotes and Un-Quotes
"I use the analogy that when you're sick, you need medicine. You either react to it and get worse or respond to it and get better. He had to take a dose of medicine today. I think he's going to respond well and he'll get better." (O-Line Coach Joe Philbin)
"It's on me, I have to do some better stuff. I have to improve. I'm still making rookie mistakes. There's some stuff I have to correct. We're trying to find the right combination of guys. There's no reason they might move me to the other side, move Jason there or move me to a different position." (Former Starter and next Mike Wahle -- Darren Colledge)

Nothing much to Woodson's debut
As debuts go, Charles Woodson's first game with the Green Bay Packers wasn't particularly attention-grabbing. At least, not until he was out of the game and standing in the wrong place on the sideline. The veteran cornerback, who signed with the Packers as a free agent in the offseason, played 16 snaps from scrimmage in Saturday night's 17-3 preseason-opening loss to the San Diego Chargers, saw only two balls thrown in his direction and didn't allow a completion. As a punt returner, he had one unfieldable ball bounce into the end zone for a touchback, then slipped and was spun around after a 3-yard gain on the one kick he caught. In fact, it wasn't until 8 minutes, 52 seconds were left in the fourth quarter that Woodson drew attention - and a 15-yard unsportsmanlike conduct penalty for interfering with an official on the sideline. Woodson was standing on the white portion, ahead of the line in the bench area, and apparently obstructed the view of one of the officials on a Charlie Whitehurst pass to that side of the field. Good News on Ahman Green???
Ahman Green Eyes 3rd Exhibition Game for Return
Jacked from Journal Sentinel
If all goes right, Green Bay Packers running back Ahman Green will make his season debut in a Monday night exhibition game against the Cincinnati Bengals Aug. 28
Though he probably could have taken part in contact at an earlier date, the training staff is taking things slowly with Green to make sure there are no complications. Green said he had happily complied with the wishes of the trainers and doctors because he sees no need to take unnecessary chances. "Right now our goal is to see how I feel Monday night at Cincinnati," Green said. "If that doesn't work, we'll wait until (the regular-season opener against) Chicago. Right now we're hitting all our goals and that makes me happy. It's been one day at a time." MORE>>
