Passing Attack Faces Another Tough Test
The Packers were well-aware of the talent in the Washington secondary heading into their matchup on Oct. 14, and that group helped produce Brett Favre's worst passing game statistically speaking in 2007. But as Favre looks to get back on track following the bye week, he's got another ultra-talented defensive backfield in Denver to contend with. The Broncos feature two veteran cornerbacks in Champ Bailey and Dre Bly, a pair that rivals the Packers' own Al Harris and Charles Woodson in any conversation discussing the best cornerback duo in the league. Both are in their ninth year, and their first year together in Denver. Both acquired via trade, Bailey came over from Washington in 2004, while Bly came from Detroit this past year. They've combined for three of the Broncos' six interceptions thus far this season, but it's more their savvy and steady play that have vaulted the Broncos to No. 2 in the league rankings in pass defense, allowing just 165 yards per game through the air. Favre has been unable to connect on deep passes
Green Bay - After finishing his weekly news conference Tuesday, a smiling Brett Favre was just about to exit a side door when he said, "It's just one game." The tone was humorous and playful. The topic of conversation that preceded Favre's departure, however, was a tad more serious: Does the fact that Favre badly underthrew four deep passes against the Washington Redskins mean the 38-year-old quarterback has finally started to lose some of the famous mustard off his fastball? "I didn't that day, but I still feel like I throw it as well as I've always done," Favre said. "I think my arm is the reason I'm still standing here in front of you today. But against Washington I did not throw the deep ball very well." [More]
Favre's strong-armed tactics
GREEN BAY — If you're wondering whether he's lost a little off his fastball after a few of his deep throws were underthrown in the last game, Brett Favre has a proposition for you. "It's a matter of opinion, but I challenge you to come out and catch a couple for me," the Green Bay Packers quarterback said Tuesday, grinning but only half-kidding. "And afterward, you make that decision." Then, as he walked out the door following his weekly Q&A session with reporters, Favre added, "It's only one game." [More]
Wynn injures neck
GREEN BAY — The Green Bay Packers are looking at another week of musical chairs at halfback after starter DeShawn Wynn didn't practice Tuesday because of what coach Mike McCarthy termed "neck spasms." McCarthy did not expound on the nature of the injury, but Wynn said it happened while he was lifting weights Monday morning and worsened during practice that afternoon. When Wynn came out of the lineup, Ryan Grant got the bulk of the work with the No. 1 offense, and Grant said he did so again Tuesday during the closed-to-reporters 11-on-11 periods of practice. The neck injury is the latest in a string of issues the rookie seventh-round draft pick has had, including a calf injury that kept him out of most of the minicamp practices, a stomach virus that delayed his training-camp debut, a quadriceps injury that kept him out of three weeks of camp and dehydration-related cramping against Chicago on Oct. 7 after a boffo opening series.
