McGee was beloved figure Packers legend dies in accident Green Bay - Max McGee, a record-setting receiver who helped the Green Bay Packers win five World Championships and later was a popular color commentator on the team's radio broadcasts, died Saturday at his home in Deephaven, Minn. McGee was 75. Emergency crews were called to McGee's residence at approximately 5:20 p.m. after a report that a man had fallen off his roof and was unconscious. Life-saving measures were performed on McGee, but emergency personnel were unable to revive him and he was pronounced dead at the scene. [More]
Teams expose Poppinga's flaws in pass coverage The Green Bay Packers probably won't ever spend a high draft pick on a strong-side linebacker, so they either will have to live with Brady Poppinga and hope he improves or try to develop another mid- to late-round pick to eventually replace him. Though it isn't solely on him, the Packers have been torched early this season by opposing tight ends. The last two games alone, Chicago Bears tight ends Desmond Clark and Greg Olsen, along with Washington Redskins tight end Chris Cooley, have combined to catch 16 passes for 224 yards and three touchdowns against the Packers. It's part of a bigger defensive problem, but often it starts with Poppinga, who typically covers the tight end when the Packers are in their base defense. [More]
