EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. - The Packers proved last week they don't need quarterback Brett Favre to recapture his MVP form in order to win. But it sure helps the cause when he does. Favre and the offense played a nearly flawless second half at Giants Stadium on Sunday, scoring four touchdowns in five possessions to pull away for a 35-13 victory over New York to give the Packers their first 2-0 record since 2001. "I can't remember the last time we were 2-0. It's been a long time," said veteran offensive lineman Mark Tauscher, who was in his second season in 2001. "It's very encouraging." So was the performance of the offense, just one week after failing to score a touchdown and relying almost entirely on the defense and special teams to beat the Eagles. This week the offense found its rhythm in the second half, erasing a 10-7 halftime deficit with Favre's pinpoint passing and up-tempo approach. Getting the offense in and out of the huddle and up to the line quickly, Favre opened the second half with 14 straight completions on touchdown drives of 51 and 80 yards, hitting Bubba Franks and Donald Lee on short TD passes. He added a third TD pass to Donald Driver on an improvised play after the Packers recovered a fumble on a kickoff, stunning the 78,701 in attendance with a 28-13 lead early in the fourth quarter. Victory's an all-time winner for Favre

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — They've been piling up for years — the trophies, the certificates, the game balls. Ask Brett Favre where they are and the Green Bay Packers quarterback won't have a clue. Some are probably stashed in the attic, or the basement, or the garage, divvied up between his homes in Green Bay and Hattiesburg, Miss. Most are probably at his mom's house in Kiln, at least the ones that weren't washed away by Hurricane Katrina a couple of years back. You see, Favre's never been much for such things. Never has been, from the first one he got at age 10. "From Day One, when I was in the fifth grade, they gave out trophies for individual achievements," Favre said following the Packers' 35-13 victory over the New York Giants Sunday afternoon at the Meadowlands. "But I've always been about the team, and that hasn't changed. I would much rather take a win." More >>
Packers beat up on Giants

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) - Brett Favre didn't need a rocket arm to become the winningest quarterback in NFL history on Sunday. His 17 years of football knowledge and a near-perfect second half against a bad defense were plenty. Favre completed his first 14 second-half passes and threw three touchdown passes to rally the Green Bay Packers to a 35-13 victory over the New York Giants' porous defense. "Maybe someday down the road it will mean a lot," a typically humble Favre said after the 149th win of his career, moving past Hall of Famer John Elway. More >>

East Rutherford, N.J. - Brett Favre picked a near-perfect way to become the winningest quarterback in NFL history. Favre hit his first 14 passes of the second half and threw three touchdown passes to rally the Green Bay Packers to a 35-13 victory over Eli Manning and the New York Giants on Sunday. The victory was the 149th of Favre's 17-year career and gave him one more than Hall of Famer John Elway. It also gave the Packers their first 2-0 start since they won their first three in 2001. Triumph easier than expected

East Rutherford, N.J. - How could the New York Giants not have been jacked up? Eli Manning played when ESPN reported that he'd be out at least a month, the Giants were coming off a drubbing in Dallas and it was their home opener on an unseasonably cool Sunday afternoon in the industrial wastelands of New Jersey. Clearly, the Giants were prepared well by their hard-driving, desperate head coach, Tom Coughlin. Most of their good stuff, on offense and defense, did work in the first half, and they went in leading the Green Bay Packers, 10-7. More >>
