"We definitely took a step forward, I'm a little soured by the way the fourth quarter went, but I'm very happy with the progress we're making." -- Mike McCarthy
Green Bay - An axiom in the National Football League holds that any team can win an exhibition game if it wants to win badly enough. The Green Bay Packers were far from desperate for victory Saturday night at rain-swept Lambeau Field. They won last week in Pittsburgh, but their No. 1 offense had been roundly panned for a listless 12-play, 17-yard, zero-first down performance. Coach Mike McCarthy and his offensive staff were up on the bit all week, demanding better. Beginning Tuesday night, he structured the team portions of practice for the rest of the week working exclusively against schemes employed by the Seattle Seahawks. Maybe the Packers' triumph was in the cards all the way. But that shouldn't detract one bit from some of the extremely positive developments that were witnessed in the 48-13 rout of coach Mike Holmgren's club. -- More
Jones looks like a real catch

GREEN BAY -- He 'll still have to do it once the games really mean something, but two games into the exhibition season, Green Bay Packers rookie wide receiver James Jones sure looks like a keeper -- in spite of the not-so-glaring mistakes he makes. Jones, a third-round pick from San Jose State, spent the first two weeks of training camp making terrific catches in practice seem routine, and he did precisely the same thing Saturday night in Green Bay 's 48-13 preseason victory over the Seattle Seahawks at Lambeau Field. Jones caught touchdown passes of 16 and 7 yards, the second of which was set up by a fantastic 32-yard diving catch he made along the right sideline, and finished with four catches for 58 yards. Jones had a team-best six catches for a team-high 58 yards last week at Pittsburgh. -- More
Bigby's extra effort looms large

Green Bay - Amidst all the sacks, interceptions, fumbles caused and touchdowns scored, the most significant development for the Green Bay Packers on defense might have been the play of safety Atari Bigby. The Seattle Seahawks didn't play quarterback Matt Hasselbeck or the two talented tackles that protect him Saturday night and it showed as the Packers annihilated the remaining members of the No. 1 offense and its backups. When the night was over, the Packers' defense had forced six turnovers, rung up seven sacks, forced three fumbles and scored a pair of touchdowns in a 48-13 victory. And while defensive end Cullen Jenkins was dominating once again, linebacker A.J. Hawk looked impressive and cornerback Jarrett Bush picked off a pair of passes, it was Bigby who stirred up the most dust on a cool, rainy evening. In just the way he attacked Seattle's offense, Bigby showed why the coaches are so high on him and why he's a good bet to leap over veteran starter Marquand Manuel on the depth chart. -- More
