By measure of dollars and cents, the two-year contract extension the Green Bay Packers have agreed upon with cornerback Al Harris isn't monumental. But Harris wasn't looking to break the bank and only wanted his contract to be upgraded to reflect the role he has taken on as the Packers' match-up cornerback the past three seasons. After the season ended, the two sides began hammering out an agreement that would benefit both Harris and the team and prevent the veteran cornerback from feeling underappreciated. "I just wanted to be compensated for my play," said Harris, who called the Journal Sentinel on Tuesday to announce that he had reached an agreement. "I wanted to feel appreciated." Harris signed a six-year, $18.635 million deal before the start of the 2004 season that included a $5.25 million signing bonus and roster bonuses of $1 million in '05 and '06. The 32-year-old Harris was scheduled to make $2.2 million in base salary plus a $500,000 roster bonus in '07. In exchange for boosting his earnings for the remaining three years of his contract, the Packers added two years, binding Harris through 2011. Harris said he received new money - mostly through roster bonuses - that would increase the value of the deal about $4 million over the next three years. -- More

Signed through 2011? Was that really necessary?
