After the loss to the Saints I made the gut wrenching... stomach churning... stick a dagger in your heart prognostication that... The Packers Suck. Since then... they've proven me right... game after agonizing game.
At that time I said... "Let's give them and Brett until game 5 to turn things around... if not... then sit Brett and bring in Aaron Rodgers and see if we have a future quarterback on our bench... or not."
Well...
Game 5 has come and gone...
We have a 1-4 record... and a bye week coming up.
It's time for a change.
Mea Copa My Eye!
When we lost to the Saints... Bubba Franks took the heat for dropping passes and missing blocking assignments. Bubba cried Mea Copa (Latin for... My Bad). When we lost to the Eagles and Donald Driver played dropsy... Double D cried... Mea Copa. Actually it was a duet because Ahmad Carroll also stepped up to the plate... accepted his guilt in the loss... and shouted to the media... Mea Copa!!! That got him a ticket out of town and a chance to watch the game like the rest of us slugs... on a big screen... drinking beer and eating cold pizza.
I expect Brett to be the next Mea Copa crier because clearly... he cost us the Ram game yesterday.
First off... Earth to Brett... run the damn system. Yeah I know it's dinky ball but two good dinky passes equals 1 first down (that's Madden math... we share waist lines and the love for incoherent sentences). Coach McCarthy has implimented the dink and dunk offense to keep you from throwing interceptions and going all 'gunslinger' up in herrre. Yet week after week you try to air it out on 3rd and like... 4 yards to go. Is it too much to ask you to... oh I don't know... just go for the first down instead of the homerun??? We had to turn the ball back over to St. Louis (by my count) 3 times because we couldn't pick up a measly 3 to 4 yards on 3rd down.
Secondly... how many years have you been in the league??? Like 16 or something... that's like George Blanda years almost!!! What's the one thing you CAN'T DO when you have the ball inside your opponents 20 yard line... down by 3... and less than 2 minutes to play???Yes???
That's right... turn it over!
Actually I question your clock management at the end there. Why spike the ball with almost a minute to go at their 10??? That's like an enternity in the NFL. You could have run 5 or 6 plays eaisly in that amount of time.
Brett... you're the best player I've ever seen.
A three time league MVP...
You won us a Super Bowl and got us to another...
And you're 'this close' to breaking all of Marino's records but.....
I have to think of the team...I have to say what's in my head and not my heart. We need to trade you (if we can find a taker) and eat some of your salary. Then bring Aaron Rodgers in starting the next game. He'll have 2 weeks to prepare.
I understand that this probably wont happen... Thompson and McCarthy are loathe to toss in the towel... but we need to be realist... we need to be honest with ourselves and see what everyone not wearing cheese on their heads can see.
It's time for a change.
Passing thoughts
A big shouts out to the other's who contributed in yesterday's debacle...
Al 'show me da money' Harris dropping a sure interception. That led to a field goal and we lost by... oh yeah... a field goal. Oh... and I guess Harris is picking up the slack for Ahmad Carroll with the holding calls. He must have had 3 in the game.
Donald 'tiny dancer' Driver and his 'bust a move' play he put on in the 3rd quarter. Donald did a little dipsy doo instead of just picking up the first down. I understand he's trying to break a Big play but... he ended up coming up a yard short of the marker leading to a 3rd and 1... the rams stuffed Herron and we had to punt. Buzz kill much?
Vernand 'dead man fumbling' Morency goes from starter to pine sitter in two series. Hey... the part of runningback 'Fumbler' is already filled. I think you just earned yourself a spot on the THIRD TEAM behind Noah. If you keep playing like that we're going to trade you to the Packers!!! Ummmm... nevermind. Mea copa on that one.
KGB... Is he like in witness protection or something? It's time to bench his butt and bring in Hunter or Montgomery... at least the latter can play the run. Now I know what the initials stand for... Kan't Get Backs. Okay... that was a cheep shot but at 6 mill a year I expect production... 'nuff said!
